That is, were you seeking to settle your mind? Have greater physical flexibility? Explore your true, spiritual nature?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>I was intrigued by the possibility of enhancing my personal discipline and focus while also becoming more physically flexible<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-48\" src=\"https:\/\/12yogaquestions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/bokur1.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"271\" height=\"403\" \/><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>How about now: does yoga feed your mind or your body or your spirit more, or are those elements more in balance than when you started?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>all of these elements have become more aligned\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>How long have you been practicing yoga?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>thirty years<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>How frequently do you practice yoga?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>most days<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Are you more likely to attend classes at a studio or practice yoga at home?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>at home, where I can control the environment<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Do you have a preferred yoga style?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>I incorporate elements from multiple styles<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>When you were starting out, what came easiest and what was more challenging?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>blocking out distractions and disruptive thoughts was difficult \u2014 because I also practice dance and am generally athletic, the physical part was easier<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>What have been the greatest benefits of yoga for you?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>better flexibility and deeper, more restorative sleep \u2014 and my self-discipline has definitely increased<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Apart from yoga, do you practice other techniques of mindfulness or meditation?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>yes \u2014 breathing exercises, seated and walking meditation, and sound-focused meditation with singing (crystal) bowls and drums<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Do you regularly do other forms of exercise?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>hiking, dance and weight training \u2014 horseback riding when the opportunity presents itself<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Outside of a yoga session, do you ever just strike a pose and stretch?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>regular breaks throughout the day to get up from my desk and do gentle yoga stretching that focuses on my back, shoulders and hamstrings<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>If I gave you an expenses-paid yoga retreat, where would you go?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Iceland<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2014interview \u00a9 Marshal Zeringue<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yoga is a holistic experience for many &#8212; mind, body, spirit &#8212; but did one element or another first draw you to the practice?
